We want talented, bright young people with an interest in design, construction and leadership; people to help shape the towns, cities and communities of the future. Could that be you?

A new way to construct your career.

Designed by industry for industry this is a new way to build your career and a real alternative to full time education.

Built for
today’s world

Ryder Architecture’s founding partners Gordon Ryder and Peter Yates were radical and entrepreneurial when they established one of the few multidisciplinary design practices of the day in 1953 - practicing architecture, structural and services engineering from a single team.

In 2013 Ryder launched PlanBEE, a campaign for change in Built Environment Education. This is now an industry wide partnership working together to shape the talent of the future and inspiring people to consider a rewarding career in the exciting world of construction.

By industry for industry

You will get the skills industry needs right now.

There is a need for more collaboration and inter disciplinary working in the construction industry; we need people with a broader set of skills and a different education. This unique programme will help you forge careers in a variety of roles which will change and evolve as your career progresses.

The programme combines study with working for some of the industry’s leading companies whose projects take them across the UK and the world.

Focused on the technical and managerial aspects of design and construction the programme is supported by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). Study will be in three parts providing the opportunity for you to step off after each with a recognised qualification – HNC and HND Degree*.

There are five areas of study with each part ending in an integrated team based project:

  • Leadership
  • Economics
  • Design
  • Technology
  • Production

You will develop knowledge in building design and performance alongside transferable skills like team working and leadership.

Off the job training will be provided by Gateshead College, graded Outstanding by Ofsted.

Learning is by a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, design studios, residentials, field work and site visits. Assessment is by a combination of examinations, coursework, projects and presentations.

* Title of qualifications may change as they are revised and updated.

Are you up for the challenge?

This programme is not for the faint hearted. The pace will be fast and you will be expected to excel in your development so you can progress to the next stage.

Entry Criteria

You need 3 A Levels at grade C and above, or a BTEC National Diploma (averaging merits/distinctions), or equivalent, plus GCSE Maths, Science and English at grade C/4 or above.

In return you will receive a starting salary of £11,383 per annum on top of all tuition fees and a guaranteed job opportunity on graduation.

Please note: The programme is designed for new entrants to the industry rather than those who have already completed undergraduate or Masters level study.
